Atierra Partners with University of Sydney Team to Secure $100,000 AUD Grant from Australia Japan Innovation Fund for CO₂-to-Methanol Catalysis Research

Shivani Sathish
Selected as 1 of 2 projects from 100+ applications, this grant supports innovative research in photo and electrocatalytic CO₂-to-methanol conversion for low-emission energy applications

Sydney, Australia and Okinawa, Japan, February 13th, 2025

Atierra announces collaboration with Prof. Catherine Stampfl’s team at the University of Sydney, including Dr. Marco Fronzi & 2 Japanese university teams to secure a $100,000 AUD research grant from the Australia Japan Innovation Fund (AJIF)

This funding supports critical research into developing energy-efficient catalytic processes for converting CO₂ into methanol, a key fuel precursor for low-emission energy applications. As the need for low-carbon fuel alternatives grows, this project aims to enhance conversion efficiency, reduce energy input, and advance the integration of CO₂-derived methanol into future energy systems.

About the AJIF Grant Program 2024

Australia Japan Innovation Fund (AJIF) is an independent, not-for-profit organization established in Australia that facilitates private-sector funding to support collaborations between academic institutions, industry, and government in Australia and Japan. The AJIF Grant Program 2024 received over 100 high-caliber applications, undergoing a rigorous evaluation by an expert panel. The committee awarded grants to two projects recognized for their innovative approaches, dedication, and the potential impact of their proposed projects. We are honored to be among this year’s recipients and grateful for AJIF’s support in driving innovation in climate and energy solutions.
